All waste from the event is composted or recycled to reduce the environmental impact. At the event there will be two types of bins, one for compostable materials and the other for bottles and cans which will be recycled. Any bottles or cans will be recycled through Containers for Change and all takeaway cutlery and crockery from coffee cups and lids, to the cutlery, plates and even cocktail cups are compostable. Compostable waste is made of natural plant starch and does not produce any toxic material. Compostable items break down readily in a composting system through microbial activity to form compost.

All funds raised through Containers for Change will be donated to Variety Queensland. This charity is dedicated to empowering kids who are sick, disadvantaged or who have a disability. Their work allows children to gain mobility, freedom, get out and about in the community, communicate, achieve independence and increase self-esteem.
